Advertising with Neon

Although not as prominent as it once was, Neon was a great way to get peoples attention while making a lasting impression. It was not only used for outdoor signage and billboards but also displayed on walls and countertops within the stores.

All the signs in the gallery above are actual Vintage Neon Signs brought in by collectors and clients for Neon Repair, fabrication of new Neon for pieces that were missing or repairing/replacing electrical components such as transformers.

NEON in MOTION

Unlike other conventional lighting one can see that neon is alive just by looking at it. One can actually see the electrical current flowing through the glass tube as it interacts with the gas that is vacuum sealed inside the glass tube causing the color to glow.

So how do you put more pizzaz into a sign to get even more attention?

ANIMATE IT!

The owner of this collectable vintage neon sign brought this into our shop. Though this particular sign never had neon on it, the owner recalled, as did we, that back in the 60's he had seen one of these with flashing neon and wanted us to reproduce that effect.

My own recollection, and perhaps my imagination, remembered that the sign back then did more than just flash so I decided to reproduce it with the paint pouring onto the earth, with a little splash then over the earth and finally dripping towards the ground.. The customer agreed and the video above is the result.
